Raw Cacoa Essential for Heart Health 25 April 2010

A study published in the March 2009 Journal of the American Society of Hypertension suggests that the high intake of flavanol rich raw cacoa by the Kuna Indians of Panama explains their increased longevity and low incidence of heart disease and cancer.

Take home message: Raw cacoa is rich in magnesium. It also increases nitric oxide levels in blood vessels which improves vascular health. Raw cacoa is a superfood and we should consume it daily either as raw chocolate, cacoa powder or cacoa nibs. All are available from the supplements page on my website.
