Propolis is Effective Against Yeast 24 August 2010

A study published in the March 2010 edition of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine has found that propolis was effective against all 97 strains of yeast causing vaginal thrush. This included strains resistant to the common anti-fungal drug, nystatin.

Take home message: I have written previously about the anti-bacterial effects of bee products, particularly royal jelly and propolis. This study confirms propolis as being powerfuly anti-fungal as well. With the increasing resistance of fungi to nystatin, propolis gives us a powerful all natural alternative. Propolis is used by bees to prevent bacteria, fungi and bacteria from entering the hive.
