Probiotics Useful in Constipation 12 August 2010

A study published in the August 2010 edition of the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology found that a probiotic for 30 days was effective in improving constipation and evacuation difficulties.

Take home message: This is pretty compelling evidence that probiotic supplementation is a good idea for anyone with constipation or problems with evacuation. In fact, because of our exposure to antibiotics, environmental toxins and molds, it’s a good idea for all of us to occasionally top up the good bacteria. Use a probiotic with multiple strains, contains a prebiotic for the organisms to feed on and has been shown to survive transit through the acid stomach.
