Fish Oil Reduces the Risk of Alzheimers Disease 5 March 2009

A study published in the November 2006 edition of the journal Archives of Neurology has shown that higher blood levels of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA are associated with a lower risk of Alzheimers disease. 899 dementia free participants (average age 76) were followed for 9 years. 99 developed dementia (71 of these had Alzheimers disease). Those who had DHA levels in the highest quarter had a 47% lower risk of dementia and a 38% lower risk of Alzheimers disease.

Take home message: pharmaceutical grade fish oil with high levels of EPA and DHA is an essential supplement for everyone.
