Quinton Marine Plasma was first developed in 1897 and is a unique complex of 84 seawater electrolytes, micro-enzyme catalysts, pre-biotic complexes and marine co-factors. Read on to see why and how this is such a crucial component of the recovery from illness and the maintenance of optimal health.
Most of us are depleted in minerals due to depletion of them in our soil and foods. Most multi-vitamin and mineral supplements contain only a few (generally less than 10) non-plant based minerals which are poorly absorbed in people with healthy gastrointestinal systems let alone patients with gut disturbances. With current farming and fertiliser practices (almost exclusively using nitrogen and phosphorous fertilisers on repeatedly farmed soil) there is strong scientific evidence that the mineral content of our food is dramatically less than it used to be. The United States for example, used to have some of the richest topsoil on earth. Unfortunately, what took millions of years to create has been destroyed within the last 100 years by rapid nutrient stripping and depletion of microbial populations due to destructive agricultural practices to support exponential population growth.
In general, modern medicine is based on an incorrect paradigm- that the Earths terrain is separate from us. The reality is that we are all part of the Earth’s terrain. Global warming, catastrophic storms, dying coral reefs and escalating chronic diseases all result from the misconception that we are separate from our environment. We now know that we are not separate, that the entire Earth and the humans on it exist in a delicate balance of minerals, enzymes and microbes. When we get out of balance by pesticides in the soil, poor nutrition or toxic run-off into our water- disease results. The new paradigm of medicine must be one where we correct the terrain of our bodies by supporting life rather than using drugs that further imbalance us and by recognising that what we do to our planet, we unavoidably do to ourselves.
Mineral deficiencies have a proven causal role in almost all chronic degenerative diseases including cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, asthma, dermatitis, chronic fatigue, depression and cancer. Sadly we can no longer rely exclusively on our foods for our vitamin and mineral requirements.
Science has documented 92 trace elements and there are hundreds of isotopes of these elements- many of which play yet undiscovered roles in human health. Maintaining the balance of our minerals has been recognised as essential for health (Schauss, Alexander. Minerals and Human health: the Rationale for Optimal and Balanced Trace Element Levels. Life Sciences Press: 1995) and nature does it best. In my opinion and experience, the practice of determining individual specific mineral deficiencies and then replacing them with artificially chelated (attached to an amino acid) minerals is less than optimal and can cause further imbalances. Even then, “we are presently recognising and correcting only a small fraction of the mineral imbalance problems plaguing animals and men” (Hoekstra, W.G. Federation Proceedings. National Academy of Sciences: Washington, D.C. Sept./Oct., 1964).
This is where Quinton Marine Plasma comes into its own. Under specific life-incubating conditions, enormous plankton blooms form in the ocean. The vortex movement of this bio-mass stirs up nutrients from the bottom of the ocean floor that feed the plankton. Plankton blooms contain more vegetation than all the vegetation on land and these blooms are consumed by trillions of zooplankton that secrete a viscous living fluid of marine nutrients. This fluid is packed with crystalloid minerals, enzymes, RNA, DNA, vitamins, synergists and marine co-factors.
Protected by the ‘walls’ of the vortex and acting as a great marine nest, the rarified water inside the bloom supports the entire oceanic food chain, hosts diverse life and determines weather patterns around the world.
In 1897, French physiologist Rene Quinton discovered that this fluid extracted from the bloom was structurally and functionally similar to human plasma- unlike seawater alone. He called the fluid “marine plasma” and found that it had the ability to restore the quality of human internal fluids. Quinton replenishes our trace minerals and feeds our healthy probiotic bacteria with marine co-factors.
The ratios and quantities of major, minor and trace minerals found in Quinton marine plasma mirror those of plasma and extra-cellular fluid almost perfectly. In its isotonic form, the pH of Quinton marine plasma matches the alkaline state of human blood. This is why Quinton is so effective in restoring the bodies alkaline design. Our cells understand marine plasma because they learned its ‘language’ billions of years ago when the first cellular blue-print was set. This means that marine plasma has free and complete access to the human cell which has all the receptors to receive it completely.
The marine plasma is collected and then cold filtered to remove all the plankton and microorganisms leaving behind a pure nutrient rich fluid.
A study done in June 1998 looked at 12 amateur competitive cyclists who drank 4 vials of Quinton Hypertonic for 30 days while riding approximately 50 miles/day. Results were:

Quinton marine plasma either comes as hypertonic (more concentrated than plasma) or isotonic (same concentration as plasma). It should be taken on an empty stomach at least 10 minutes before a meal. It should be held in the mouth for a minute before swallowing. I usually suggest 1-4 vials/day.
It is a crucial part of the recovery from exercise and any chronic illness including chronic fatigue, insomnia, foggy thinking, dermatitis, depression, food allergies (it reduces sensitivity) and inflammation.
